Ok so my friend has a dell o sorry hell dimension e510. however his power supply (305 watts HAHAHAHAHAHAH) is going bad. We believe it has seen better days and is now going (hence every time he shuts it off it does not come on)
Now his dad says that you have to replase it with a dell powersupply b/c they use a special power or something. all the conections look the same but one but that is nto used. what do you say. will it work if we go get a new atx power supply

It should work and you shouldnt need a dell one. Just make sure the one you get has the right mobo connector.

I don't know bout the new ones, but older dells DO have a propietary power connector, physically it's like the nomal ones, but plugging in a non-dell PSU is probably going to screw the computer. How old is the comp?

Dell uses BTX MoBo's. Find a BTX PSU and you should be golden.

I have this power supply in my Dell Dimension E521. It works fine, fit perfectly.
I've heard bad things about MSI, but it's given me no troubles. It has plenty of cables, and they're all really long (which is great for large cases).
