Default installation disc compatible?

i've got a question...I'm having problems with my Compaq laptop and dont have a recovery partition or discs to reinstall xp with...not Compaq specified anyways....i have "reinstallation cd Microsoft XP home edition including service pack 1" cd that came with my old dell computer...i have a product key off the laptop, would this disc work to run a clean install???? even tho its says "dell" on it????
