Default Can Anything Be Done If a Virus Destroys BIOS?

I know someone that has possibly completely destroyed their computer with viruses. He wouldn't use any anti-spyware or anti-virus software with his Windows XP. He would download a lot of pornography and I believe his system became so full of viruses that his Basic Input Output System became corrupted. When you turn on his notebook all it shows is a black blank screen. I've tried to pull up his BIOS to no avail. Once this happens to a system is there anyway it can be repaired?

hmm i'm not too sure if viruses can actually damage hardware also, but maybe if the BIOS went bad, then try flashing it with the same bios
