Default Is my sound problem unsolvable? Want a challenge?

I just can't seem to get anyone to help me with my problem. It's kind of odd. Heres some background. I purchased a Dell E510 about 2 years ago. It's a decent setup I suppose. However, I had a sound problem from day 1. I load up my flight sim (MS FS 2004) and when I increase throttle on the planes, the sound pitch doesn't go up smoothly. It goes up in increments, like if you were playing a scale on a musical instrument. I can solve that issue by turning the hardware aceleration all the way down. This makes the sound increase smoothly now. Only problem is now the sound quality sucks. I would like to have the sound increase smoothly and be good quality with full hardware aceleration. What should I do? I'm not the best with computers, so I'll need some detailed instructions if anyone has a solution. The soundcard that came with this is an onboard SigmaTel something or other. SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC is what it says under system information.

Older onboard sound totally stinks for gaming to begin with! One reason for the popularity of the Sound Blaster line of expansion type sound cards besides the EAX effects is simply the sound quality in gaming and multimedia over the years.

The sound there isn't a separate card but an onboard audio chip if you are plugging the speakers into the rear of the board and not a card in a pci slot. The Dell support site is always a trip while they still show an X-Fi as well as an Audigy 2 ZS as the two other options for sound as seen at http://support.dell.com/support/topi...D&doclang=en#2

So what do you recommend? I want to get away with the cheapest option I can right now. I'm going to have a new comp built for gaming, but in the meantime I just want the sound to work normally on this one. Would a simple $30-40 soundblaster PCI card correct my problem and allow me to run the stupid flight sim normally?

You could buy the card you would use in the new build and run that now as well. If you plan to keep a sound card in as a spare case then go with a low cost model that still sees some updates for Vista as well. That would be the Audigy 4 Pro in mind there while the Audigy SE 7.1 models can be found cheap at this time. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102012
