Default QX9650 Stock Heatsink and Fan or Aftermarket?

I am currently researching my first computer build and I am looking at the QX9650. Obviously I want a good price and have done quite a bit of searching. I found one on ebay for an $800 buyout free shipping however the seller said that it is just the processor itself. He also said that an aftermarket heatsink and fan would cool the processor much better than the OEM parts. Is this true and would it make much of a difference. I also glanced across an article about a cooling grease or something of that nature that also helps to keep processor temperatures down. Is that worth the money or is that something that you need. I do not know much about overclocking so at the time I do not plan on doing that.
I am looking at the Antec Nine Hundred case
Geforce 9800 GX2
nVidia nForce 790i
Western Digital SATA Hard Drive still unclear there but looking at the Caviar RE Model WD2500YS
And the memory I am still unclear with but was looking at the Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) RAM
Any advice would be much appriciated and thank you for your time.

I'd watercool it. Doesn't seem right to put an air cooler on the QX9650...

I would like to water cool this machine however being a first time builder I would like to steer clear of any mistakes I will most likely make and cost myself more money that I have to spend on this build.

Fair enough. Get something like the Zalman 9700 for now. Do some research on watercooling and maybe take a crack at it in the future.

I appreciate your feed back and hope that this all goes well once the parts arrive. I will definitely look into water cooling. One question does that involve having a case specifically for that purpose or will just about any enclosure work?

For watercooling, I'd get a case with two holes in the back in case you decide to have an external radiator and (or) resevoir. Many cases - the Antec 900 and Coolermaster Cosmos, for example - are available with the holes preapplied. Another option is the Gigabyte Mercury Pro. It's expensive, but has everything preinstalled for a WC setup.

With a processor that good, you should at least have aftermarket cooling and a minimal overclock that only requires a FSB bump

if you're willing to spend that much on a CPU, then either buying a stock or aftermarket cooling shouldn't be a problem. aftermarket is always better. and for watercooling, it works great, but there is a lot to learn about it before you start. it's a whole new topic in computers
