Unhappy memory problems

i have just bought 2 new memory sticks for my pc, (512 ddr-400).i installed the 2 memory sticks and at first everything was ok, but after 30mins or so the pc kept freezing, so i removed the old memory and put new back in, but when i start up the pc again it keeps on rebooting and says there are files missing.
i have now removed the new memory and replaced it with the origanal and its working fine. when i put the new memory in, the computer recognises it but will not run????? anyone help????
