Default PSU sizes

I recently bought a PSU that I wasn't able to put in my case. I mean, it fit, but the screw holes didn't match up. I can't remember if it was too big or too small (yeah, I'm losin' it), but I think it was too big xD; It is an XG Vigor500, and on the box it says it's an AMD ATX. I know nothing about PSUs, so please help me out. Before I put my current PSU back, which came with the computer btw, I checked its dimensions: 6 3/8 x 4 1/4 x 5 3/8. I don't know if those numbers are in the right order because length, width, and height are all the same to me >__>

Anyway, is this a non-standard PSU or do I have a funky case? I have an HP d530 Convertible Minitower, and when I checked out this information page, it said it contained an ATX PSU. What kind of PSU should I buy? Please, someone, my 6600gt is ageing in the corner ;__;

Can't you just drill new holes in the back of your case and screw the PSU in?

I don't have a drill.

That's not very helpful, as you gave me no information about PSUs.

Maybe you just put it upside down into your case, so the holes didn't line up. Or did it not go into the case at all?

Wow, that was fast o_o; No, it fit in, and I put it in the right way :/ Are you guys just checking to make sure I did it right before mentioning different types of PSUs, or is it extremely rare for a PSU not to fit?

1. Make sure yer case is ATX, if it isnt and you dont/cant drill, yer SOL
2. What is yer case?

I assume I have an ATX case. And sorry about my sort-of-rude comment. I think I was just sort of bugged that that was the only reply I got all night.

LOL no worries ... unlike a techsupport line there isnt always someone here (cuz we dont live here)

As for your PSU being wierd or yer case being wierd, have a look at this. That's fairly indicitive of a normal PSU ... of course if you want the de-facto answer, see page24-25 of the ATX 1.03 specifications (in the PSU101 thread)

Thanks, Praetor. I'm afraid to buy anything else without knowing if it'll fit or not. I think what I'll do is call my neighbor and ask if he has a drill, and see if my dad will make some holes for me. I should've thought of that before ^^;

Very offtopic, I know, but I don't think it's important enough for its own thread: I paid $250 for my new EVGA geforce 6600gt (128mb). Was I not extremely overpriced?
