Arrow some noob stuff...the q9300

I was checking out the Yorkfield Q9300 and wondered what anyone thought of it. Also, the standard nOOb questions... So a quad with 2.5 gHz works out to a total of 10gHz right? and if u overclocked it to 3, it would be an overall 12gHz right?

no, thats a commonly made mistake. 3.0ghz quad core is not 12 ghz total. 2 ghz dual core is not 4 ghz total. i wish tho

thats the whole CPU speed.

So in the way you say, itll be 0.625 per core :p

But yeah the whole CPU is just 2.5Ghz

There's some car metaphor...analogy..whatever...thing that does a good job of explaining it, although I can't find it. (Omega...I believe it was you who posted it).

Omega should just post it in his sig so everyone sees it lol. As far as processor choice, if you can find a Q6600 G0 for $200, its definitely a better deal.

I have a related question, that might help the original poster. The 2.5mhz is not multiplied by 4, which I understand, but when I overclockmy quad core, why does only 1 core show at a faster mhz? I look at the speed using cpu-z.

haha, I already forget most of what I said, but I know it was something about lanes on a highway vs driving faster in fewer lanes.

*2.5GHz

It overclocks all cores. I'm not sure which version of CPU-Z you're using, but you can't select different cores to see what those are running at, they should all be running at the same speed.
