I would find a sound card that supports has midi inputs/outputs. If you're doing studio recording, you'll need something to hook mics into like an m-box, unless you want to go directly from your mixer board to your comp, not sure exactly how to do that, but someone here probably will.

OK, well i would get a thing called a firepod... for school the Light + Sound team have one connected via firewire (i think). Then you get software called Sonar.

but if you need help finding anything else - i'm happy to help.

Edit - the only thing i can find is really SPDIF outputs... anyone else able to find a MIDI output / input sound card???

this is the other one i found - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829127002

Aren't most modern MIDI devices connected via USB? My synthesizer is...
And I'm not quite sure if sound-editing programs can take advantage of four cores, a fast c2d might be a better call? Correct me if need be.

Well not sure on Sound Card

But there will be advantages with the Quad Core.

At Light + Sound we have a Dual Core and we want to have a Quad Core but IT will not pay for it. Because the computer is out of IT's budget.

Well yeah, but generally you'll get better recording quality with a sound card made for studio recording.

The sound card will only be for output.

You would as firepod for the actual recording

Here is a link - http://www.zzounds.com/item--PRSFIREPOD

My light + sound team i'm with at school - we use the firepod and we have recorded bands and singers and have been really happy with the sound quality.
