Trouble installing drive HELP!!

I got my drive hooked up right but when I turned my comp on to load the disk for it it did nothing The drive isn't registering at all on the computer. It's getting power but that's it the computer won't use it. Any suggestions?

Probably needs a driver.

What type of drive is this for? Is the hard drive or optical/floppy drive first in the boot order? An unpartitioned unformatted drive is unbootable upto seeing an mbr pointing to an active partition with some type of boot loader for the OS on it.
