What DON'T I need?

I'd really like to get my computer running a bit faster. I have so much crap running, and I don't even know what the majority really are or do.

The first place to look is in the msconfig utility's startup group since multiple items seen in the processes reflect mostly system processes and not applications set to load up along with Windows. The local system, system, and networking items are part of the background services.

Once in the msconfig typing msconfig at the Run prompt you can simply uncheck anything unnecessary there to free up resources. If something like a vdeo card or sound item is dsiabled and needed you can always return there to see it re-enabled again.

It looks to me like you have windows media player and itunes running or in the background!

I'm assuming you're referring to 'iTunesHelper" and 'iPod..something'. In that case, nope. They always run. I've checked them off from the start up a few minutes ago. Hope that'll help a bit.

It's part of Windows Defender/AntiSpyware.

Another place to look for only a few things is in the services tab by first checking the "hide all microsoft services" box and looking at things other then video and sound card softwares as well as antivirus protection found there. If you forget to check off the hide MS services box and disable the wrong thing... ut oh! ...

3rd party apps often see a few items in there as well as the startup tab. The MS items are needed to see Windows run!
