so i bought a new computer (imac) and a new printer (brother) CAn somebody tell me how to set this up. All the printer came with was an ethernet cable. I tried plugging one end into the printer and one end into the computer and nothing works. I know this is a stupid question, but can somebody help?

Um, I don't know how to set up a printer on a network, but someone will be along to help you with that, however, what kind of ports are on the back of the computer, there should be the power and ethernet obviously, but is there anything else?

your printer in here and see if you can download the manual. http://www.brother.com/E-ftp/info/index.html hope this helps
