Default RAM for Vista

I have Vista Home Premium and wanted to know if I can go to 4 GB? I have 2 Kingston and wanted to also know if I should get the same brand and spec (PC6400) and/or get a new set/different brand (4) 1024 or (2) 2GB?

Ideally you should get the same stuff you have know, but getting a different brand shouldn't matter. Since you already have 2GB you might as well get 2 more 1GB sticks, you can go out and buy 2x2GB if you want to sell the RAM you have now or have another use for it though.

You can go to 4GB but if you are running 32bit only something around 3GB will be available to windows.

Yup he has 32bit! Read his signature. That means you should just get 1 more stick of 1gb b/c 32bit will only read a little over 3gb. Or you could just buy a couple of sticks of really fast ram!!

Why does the 32-Bit Vista only reconize 3GB vs 4GB even if I throw 2 more 1GB into my computer? Also...don't I need 2 sticks since it is DDR2? Or can I run 3 1GB sticks and leave the 4th slot open?

B/c it can only process that much. Do you have the stock OEM version of home premium? If so then your screwed if you wanna upgrade to 64bit b/c you have to do a clean install and buy a new disk and then upgrade that version with the 64bit disk.

No!! Any 32it OS can only read 3gb of ram. You will need a 64bit OS in order to run 4gb+ of ram. All that money you spent on that pc and you dont even have 64bit os. That sucks!! Your only using about half your processor and memory that you could use!!

I can get the 64-Bit Vista anytime. I just didn't think I needed 64-Bit right now. SO my only option is to get 2 512's to make it 3GB? Or can I just add another 1 GB and leave the 4th slot open? Oh how do I know if I have the OEM version 32-Bit? My computer was purchased from iBUYPOWER.com.

Do you have the OEM (original) version or did you go out and buy the disk? If you have OEM then you cant!! If your pc came with the full disk or you bought it then you can.

I bought the computer from iBUYPOWER.com. So I don't know if I have a OEM or full. How can I tell?
