Default Is SATA the best hard-drive? and what's VGA

I bought a new computer a few weeks back, and it broke down last week. From the little I know I figured it was the hard drive gone down.

I sent it back to the shop. He says it's the hard drive and the vga. What's a VGA please anybody????

Also he suggested replacing the SATA with an IDE drive but I was under the impression SATA were better, is that right ??? (something to do with the cooling I thought)

thanx
