i want to upgrade my cpu. i have a intel pentium d 2.66 OC to 2.98 and i was wondering if a faster pentium d dual core would be better or a intel core 2 duo?

Depends on the CPU - Dual Core Pentiums are known to handle a wicked OC. They're basically toned-down C2D's. I you want/need a larger cache, go with an actual C2D.
