Because the children turned 18.
the US deported a bunch of illegal immigrants. They were found again. A bunch of reasons I can think of.

In 1986 te IRS made a new rule that required the social security number of every dependent child being claimed on the tax form...as a result the next years tax returns saw 7.3 million children simply disappear!!! brilliant
