Default An XP, A Vista, and a HP

Hey everyone,

Let me first tell you my configuration. I've connected my Vista machine to a HP PSC 2175xi printer over a network (somewhat) successfully. The printer is connected to a XP machine. I've done lots of printer sharing earlier, just with XP machines though, so I'm pretty sure its configured correctly. From the Vista, I can connect to the printer and everything.

Now here's the problem. If my Vista machine tries printing over the network, say a word document, the printer prints only the first 4 lines in extremely large print, and then prints several blank pages after that. HOWEVER, if I bring the Vista machine over to the printer, directly connect it, and then print, it prints fine.

Does anybody know how to fix this problem so that I can print over the network without the abnormally large text?

Sounds like a driver issue or something! Try reinstalling the drivers on both pc's. It wont hurt to try.

Thanks g25racer for the quick response and advice. Well, I just tried installing new drivers, but to no avail. Same problem.

Maybe its important to include that other computers running XP can print over the network fine. Its just the Vista that's being troublesome.

Did you use the same drivers from the xp for the vista pc? If so then it's drivers and you need vista drivers.

Thanks for the help guys, i still havn't figured it out. I tried updating the drivers, but that didn't work. I don't think drivers is the problem though, because when connected directly the vista prints fine, but over the network it fails. hmmmmmmm

Ok, so u updated the proper drivers right? Vista drivers to vista dn teh XP drivers for XP. im pretty sure it was never a driver issue because of the fact that it prints correctly when being connected directly to the comp.

That is as a matter of fact VERY odd because i ahve a similiar setup. I have the black toner Laserjet printer hooked up to my comp, shared on mine because my dads comp doesnt have a parellel port. And my dad has a mfc color printer hooked up to his comp by USB, shared also.

What you might want to try is hooking up the printer to the vista (please don't let me lose you) and then share it and print using the XP, with the printer being plugged into the vista comp.

Too lazy? Heres the next thing i was going to have u do:

Please print a one page word document on the vista, witht he printer tethered to the XP, using a shared connection. And if the first four lines are printed, and then several pages come out blank, try it again adn this time on the Vista comp check the printer icon at the bottom right of ur screen. Double click and look at the status??? Any errors? post back dude.
