Default First day at work today

So today was my first ever day at work

Im working in a kitchen (in a golf club HERE !) making sandwiches and baps putting dishes in the washer and just general kitchen work
even tho today was a slow day ( think i made 8 baps in 6 hours ) i did quite enjoy it
at the moment i only work 6 hours on Sundays but ive already been offered extra hours this month and bar work when i turn 18 in may

Im really happy to be earning money and learning some new stuff too

I cant wait to save some money up and buy myself something nice

Glad you enjoyed it!

I started my restaurant career in the same way - kept learning what I could, helping out here and there, and climbed up the ladder. Had some great times doing it, too. It's *very* easy to burn yourself out in that industry though, so be careful and always be aware of the Dark Side of the (foodservice) Force.

Looking back now, if I had that part of my life to do over, I'd probably stay a cook/chef and take on additional responsibilities, rather than go the Management-route again.

Dude, lol at least you have a dish washer. I work at a Pizza company doing a similar thing, but I have to actually wash dishes NON-STOP with no gloves.

<chuckles softly> Hehehe...we call those kitchen hands; don't worry - within two weeks you won't feel dry heat until about 180*F (steam/wet burns are a different story and never fun - if I had to choose between a 1-second steamer burn or a 3-second 'put my hand on the grill burn', I'd choose the grill anytime). One week after that, you won't know you're cut/bleeding until you see the blood dripping. Not to freak you out, but there will come a time when you cut the tip of a finger off and not know it until you touch the lemons at the Service Station (be sure to use grenadine syrup to warn the others!)--your hands will be that tough And, for the record...you're not a true kitchen guy until you know what a 'pokey-stick' is (might be an American term, but probably known Globally).

Seriously though, if you ever have a bad day and need to vent, PM me - I've dealt with the business for a long time and, while not like Bishop from the movie Waiting (which I found completely offensive, yet could entirely relate to at the same time), but I'll offer whatever advice I can.

Glad to see some kids like working! I got a lazy 18yr old who just wants to sit around the house all day and play video games or hang out with his fat little girlfriend...those days are comming to an end real real soon

As for working in a kitchen, enjoy. I did it from age 15 to 22 all while I was going to school full time.

Give it a few months! I worked for 8 months in a hotel when I left school, pushed me into university like nothing else could! I pretty much ran the place, cooked breakfast when the chefs didn't show up, cleaned rooms (shoved stuff in cupboards and under beds), ****ing nightmare! I once had to serve over 30 tables of people wanting dinner on my own, that was horrible (and no-one got any food!).

On the plus side, once we'd finished cleaning we'd all sit around a drink! If a wedding party was on until 3am we'd clean till 4, then drink heavilly till 7am, then go and do breakfast - some highly illegal 30 hours shifts back then!
