You could just try it? If you have problems then http://www.openoffice.org/ is a good alternative and works under Vista.

Is that a free d/l? My main usage is Word. Can I type w/ openoffice or is it just a opening document type software?

OpenOffice is free, yes. It's a fully functional office suite. The word processor is called Writer and you can open and save just like in Word. Just make sure you save in a Word compatible format if you intend any documents to be opened in Word.

Outlook XP has problems on Vista, namely it doesn't save the login passwords and asks for it every time.
