This is just a quick rant, i'm properly pissed off!! Trying to get some uni work done, really getting important now, and all my software is playing up! Cubase in windows seems to grind to a halt after any simple request, so I gave up with that. Installed it in osx, wouldn't work, no idea why. Protools then, not so good for midi but at least it should work... Nope. For some reason it won't record any automation played in from my keyboard, so volume changes don't effect the sound. Draw them all in? Nah, far too much work. I'll just bounce the midi sounds to disk and import them as audio files, work on them as audio, that'll work. Oh no, course not. Silence. Great.
I'll leave that for a minute then, and import the movie i'm scoring. What's this? Protools can't read quicktime? Got to convert it to a movie? Great work digidesign. Right, finally found the software to do that, import movie, great. Ah, so everything's running at half the speed now? Great. Why can't I hear those tracks? WTF?! ok... I'll open Reason and start playing some stuff in. Again, no chance. Volume, pitch bend, modulation, none work. All the Reason stuff coming in on random channels it seems, why??? I could try rebooting to windows and trying protools there... Nah, that always crashes for no reason. Could try Logic, it's an older copy, but maybe it'll work. Wait, no, I forgot, Logic is utter shite. I'm not exactly trying anything complex, or processor hungry, I'm playing a few samples, at most using 5-10% of the computers power. Not one of the 'big 3' audio programs will work properly. I've got huge amounts of work due in soon and I don't have a stable platform to work on. All the software is legal, installed from original disks onto 2 different o/s's, both up to date, on an Apple computer. It's sad. Does garage band support video?! I reckon it might actually be more reliable... Off to uni then, looks lke I'll be spending the day in a shitty music room trying not to be distracted. Of course they have every piece of software except Cubase (the only one I'm completely familiar with), so it's a struggle. I really hate computers sometimes.
