Default help for friend

i have been trying to help out a friend figure out a problem he is having installing a new hdd, he has a dell XPS 600 and he is trying to put in a 500 gb WD hdd. according to him he has tried the sata drivers from the dell site on a seperate floppy wen installing xp on the new hdd but he says it doesnt notice the hdd to install it to. wat might be the problem or what might might he have to do?

You have to do more than just put the floppy in. You have to press F6 and pick the driver to add.
