Default Help re new laptop-microsoft word

Apologies if someone has read this on another forum but I foolishly didnt realise how many there were!
Hi there.Sorry to bother you all.
I've recently bought a basic Dell laptop. I use it for very few needs - internet and typing up work. It only has "works" processor which, explained to me today, means when I attempt to process my work on uni computers - to print etc - does not allow it.
What i'm asking in a terrible way is can i download a basic microsoft word programme, i.e word 2003, on the internet anywhere for free? does anyone kindly have any suggestions as to what i should do? i hear "the ultimate steal" is good - thing for students which means you can get microsoft odice 07 for a year for 14 pounds..however anyone have any free suggestions for a student!?
much obliged

Microsoft gives very little for free. Try OpenOffice.org
