Default XP Registration Help!

My cousin and I share a computer. Its an IBM, not sure about anything more specific than that. Its old though. Id guess around 5yrs or so. I had to reformat it and everything goes perfect. Now its installed and I have " 30 Days to activate windows". The problem is I dont have the original paper work AND the information is not on the computer. How/what do I need to do to get it registered? I dont want to reinstall it every 30 days

You don't have the License key on the side of the tower/under the laptop?

You should be able to click on the register button and call microsoft/connect to the internet. As long as you don't have to enter the CD key you should be fine.

Practically any computer with Windows loaded on it will have a license on the bottom.

If you don't have this, check the copy of windows you loaded. Sometimes they have pre-programmed keys. Perhaps the key was "entered" during the install and it's simply not activating. I've had this happen before; a simple call to MS can resolve the problem.

Are you sure? It's normal to have blank fields labeled A-B-C, etc. That field is entered after you read the installation ID to the robot. They tell you what to fill in.

Otherwise, you are seeing the license screen.

MS needs to rethink the license agreement. At least Mac OS lets you install it on up to 5 systems.
