Default Heatink fan speed makes no difference in temps.

I have a Q9450, the Asus Maximus Formula, and a Zerotherm Nirvana NV120. I can have the fan speed at full (around 2600RPM) and I can have it at low (around 700RPM) and it makes no difference on my temps.

I've tried the bios, PC Probe, Speedfan, and PCWizard08. They all report the same [false] temps. I'm assuming it's a CPU "problem" (I know the E8400's have been giving people weird temps...maybe the Q9450 is as well?)

This is at idle...maybe my load temps will be different. Anyways, no matter what I do, my CPU temp (not core) changes randomly from 15-20C.

Could someone tell me what's going on?

How are those good temps? There's no way that my CPU temp is that low. Right now for example, it's at 11C. Speedstep is on, so it's only at 1.8GHz right now, but even at that, there's no way it's at 11C when the ambient temp. of my basement is 21.

These have got to be false temps...aren't they? (Or at least my CPU temp)?

Definitely false temps. You say no matter what you do the temps range 15-20. Even with a load on the CPU? If so, you most likely have stuck heat sensor, as andy said. If it runs hotter under load, then you just have inaccurate heat sensors. Increasing the fan speed will not necessarily lower temps if the CPU is at idle.

No, temps do increase under load.

Have you tried Core Temp?

Soundl like the Q9300 may suffer from inaccurate sensors like the E8400, as you said earlier. Maybe someone with a Q9300 can chime in?

No...although I have tried realtemp. I guess there's something with the 45nm chips that "regular" temp monitoring apps don't like, and realtemp is supposed to fix that.

I have the Q9450...but they're relatively the same.

Give Coretemp a try and see what it says...
