Default The "found to be hazardous in the state of CA" sticker

Anyone know the meaning of these warnings? For those who haven't seen them, it's a sticker on almost every computer component, mostly motherboards and vidya cards.

It reads something along the lines of "WARNING: This device contains a chemical or chemicals known by the state of California to cause birth defects and cancer. Wash hands after handling."

So, can handling computer components too much actually cause birth defects or cancer? I doubt it. California has also banned ferrets from the state because they're "a threat to the environment."

Discuss.

yes, CA is a very weard state. mostly 4/5 stores have a contains chemicals to the state of CA to cause _________. in my mind its stupid. i walk into a Walgreen's and what o they have mercury thermometers. o no! they need to cut the poo and put thous signs on something that actually does do something. like if i see that sign i dont care anymore so i will walk in anyway. well what if it had a outbreak of cyanide gas. well im dead and its b/c to the state of CA everything is dangerous. oh, that condom, its latex its been known to the state of ca to cause birth defects... well lets just hope it does!!! for thous who dont know it its sad. i bet if i looked hard enough probably 30 products have that label.

rap it up, it is stupid and they cant tell if it does harm. too many variables

Well, the stickers aren't just found in CA. They're on anything that's marketed such that someone living in CA might buy it.

So, everything on Newegg for starters. I was living in Phoenix when I first saw it.

i've never seen this warning and i shop at some ghetto places like walmart and the thrift store. must be a recent thing as my build is 4 months old.

california sets the standard for almost anything "green." for instance we set the standard for no leaded fuel. we've set emission laws that other states eventually follow. we add additives to our fuel for cleaner burning (that's why we pay more per gallon). the other states haven't followed suite with this yet.

It's not new, but it's in fine print usually. I'm going to go ahead and take a picture of one of mine, a Gigabyte motherboard I got from Newegg.

this

The vidya card I'm getting has the same, except it also mentions cancer.

So I made this thread to help me not worry about it.

its fine, yes lead is toxic, but that is a a large quantity, they may only have 1 gram of it in there. its harmless. idk why they do it but they are picky about it

im amazed there aren't warning labels on pure gold rings, its just as dangerous as lead, and what about teflon, when it was invented, it was the miricale(couldn't spell right) and you had to have it on everything, now what are they saying?
