Ok ive looked everywhere for info on networking comps. together
. and seems i can't find anything in lamans terms. ![]() what i have: Compaq Armada Laptop running Xp ( No wireless Connection as of Yet ) Home Brew Desktop Running Xp Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband 2.4 GHz (802.11g) Router Eithernet Cable that came with router + a few extras what im wanting is to network both together with out internet ( will have internet soon )so i can share and transfer files from one comp. to the other. Just want to get thing set up and ready for when the internet gets turned on. Please let me know how to do this in plan english. Hopefully step by step or a website i can go to that explanes it very clearly step by step. Thanks In Advance

The easiest way would be to set up your router to be a DHCP (it should come with clear instructions) and plug the laptop and desktop in with ethernet cables.
Then on the computer that has files you want to share, right click on the folder they are in and click on Sharing and Security. Then click on share this folder you can put a share name in if you want or leave it at default. Click Apply. Now, go to the other computer and open My Computer or IE. In the address bar type \\<computer> where <computer> is the name of the computer you set the share on. You can find the name of the computer on the properties of my computer on the computer name tab.
