Default Wireless Router Antenna upgrades

hey guys, its been a while since i've visited CF!

Okay, here's the deal: im at a college with spotty wifi coverage, and theres a house (the "bachelor pad") across the road from the dorms that has a linksys WRT54G router from which i can get signal every once in a while. i have seen wifi router antennae replacement upgrades online for relatively cheap, and im wandering if it would be worth my while to invest in one.
it boasts 5x signal boostage, which seems too good to be true, but if it would even boost it 2x would make it worth it.
im pretty sure it would fit the antenna connection, but the router has 2 antennae and im wondering if i will need to get 2 antenna upgrades.

any help would be much appreciated!

if you want to replace the anttenae, then you would need two. But, you could also get a wifi extender.

true, but ive always been skeptical of those, and 2 new antennae costs $12 vs. $40-50 for an extender.

do you know if i have to have 2x new antennae; will it improve with only one?
