Default Cmd Question

Why am i getting an Access Denied result when i try the "shutdown -i" command from my lap top computer, trying to restart my brothers desktop computer?

Is there anyway to override this?

I'm running Vista, hes running XP, if it helps.

did you right click the cmd and hit run as admin
