Default is it worth it

im on XP at the mo and i play crysis etc on it with my 8800gtx with the very high settings unlocked, now if i install vista will the performance decrease THAT much or is it not noticeable?

It could decrease performance but it looks like you have a good enough computer that it wouldn't really make a difference. You can run DX10 too with Vista (If Crysis supports it) which would be really cool.

I believe it would be running in DX10 mode, so yes it will perform worse, but I can't say how much worse.

my cpu and gpu are both on stock at the moment, and i heard the conroe cores can overclock like anything, and the gpu has some room for it too, so hopefully my overclocked components on vista will perform like my stock components in xp :p

Depends also on what type of Vista. Vista Basic and Vista Ultimate are also different... 2GB and Vista work well, but 2GB is quite small if you also plan on hardcore gaming.
