I have two computers that let each other share files and folders when I go to "My Network Places" in Windows XP. But when I'm on Computer #1 and open a file that's saved on Computer #2 and edit that file, I cannot overwrite or save that file in its original location: it's write-protected. Where can I even edit this Network so I can adjust its privacy level? I wasn't here when this network in particular was created between these 2 computers, and I find Windows' Network set-up very confusing and unorganized .... Thanks.

I think you have a problem with sharing rights! By the look to me, you probably don't have rights to share the data file, or the hard drive in question.
Do you know what I mean by this? If not, drop me a line?!

OK, when you have gone to share the file... you have not ticked "Allow People to change files" (along those lines)... once that is ticked then you can saved and change files to that folder... also you can map a network drive... so when you open Explorer it has the driver there you double-click on it and you can view the files straight away
Open Explorer Tools > Map Network Driver > and follow

Okay vk3fcll. I went there and it lists A-Z drives in a drop-down menu and I can not find C: drive. I only have C: (and of course D: as a CD drive). I'm at a dead-end and can't carry through that wizard you pointed out .......... and I am the business owner, so yes I am permitted this access, I am trying to understand how this network was set-up because someone else set it up
