I am finaly replacing my state-of-the-art-in-2002 PC with an amazing gaming rig that will cause all who see it to tremble in its presence! The sheer might will knock you over from 30 feet away!
Well these are my goals to meet with this rig: - 100% Ubuntu Compatibility - 100% Vista Compatibility - Be able to run Crysis maxed out. Here is the link to the Newegg wishlist. https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishli...+suggestions%3F Any suggestions? Is there anything that won't work? Anyway I can save some money? Promo codes?!?!? Anything I could change to get a little more bang for my buck? Or a little more buck for my bang? Oh yeah, and I will name this mighty machine Cortana, after the first class 3 AI. ![]() |

Well I was told once to not get ATI cards... But seeing I installed Ubuntu on a friends computer that has an ATI card without problems (the newest one if I am correct; Gutsy Gibbon) that most likely won't be correct anymore.
Do note that you might get a little problem with your internet, if so try a different internet program (not the standard Ubuntu one but a different one for Ubuntu, that was my friends problem as well... And still is seeing I didn't do anything about it yet :p ) Last edited by Timo; 04-15-2008 at 10:04 PM. Reason: notE with a E on the end |

1: what monitor are you using?
i bought 2 9800gx2's thinking they were the shizzle. but unless your using a 26"+ monitor, they are a waste. even one of them wont be great unless you have a 24 - 28" monitor. so now im using a 22" monitor with 2 8800gt 512mb. overclocked them so they run faster. i can play crysis with everything maxed out and get a decent fps. when i lower the AA and AF i get even better results and the game runs perfect. 2: dont get 2x1 sticks of ram. ram is so cheap now. buy 2 x 2 sticks of ram. corsair or ocz would be the best. vista would run so much better with 4gb. 3: is 250gb drive enough? its only got 16mb of cache. this would be a better option. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152100 its 3 times the size, and its the best harddrive out there. 32mb cache. and its not a whole lot more expensive. 4: get a quad core. it will easily overclock to 3.4ghz with that board and good ram. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115018 its a bit more expensive, but you will save a lot by not getting the 9800gx2. 5: Rosewill RCX-Z775-SL cpu cooler is a load of shíte. sorry but it is! a 15dollar cpu cooler will not work and your cpu will overheat easily. i have a qx6700 extreme cpu @ 3.4ghz and my temps are about 35oC idle using this cpu. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106069 or something like this would do great. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118034 |

Yeah, that will work out well. I'd get an E8400 over a Q6600 but it's up to you.
