I am currently in the process of my first computer build.
790i Ultra Motherboard
9800 GX2
Thermaltake Toughpower 850w Power Supply Unit
Seagate 7200 250GB Hard Drive
Samsung CD/DVD burner

That is what I currently have. I am looking at the Q9450 or the Q9550 Quad core processor. Looking at the Q9450 due to the price and since I'm new to this the only thing I see different in the 2 besides the speed is the price which is not a huge difference. About two hundred dollars difference depending where I shop.

After the processor I am waiting on the NZXT Tempest case and word straight from Steven Truong that works for the company says it should be ready by the first week of May!

The second thing is the Monitor. I have a neighbor who has the Dell 2407WFP and it looks great and I was thinking of that or the 2408WFP or possibly a Samsung 2493HM. All the reviews however say that the Samsung creates some noise but I would like your opnions. Not looking to spend more that $600 on a monitor but I want a good one with 1920x1200 resolution. Those are the two I think I like the most.

Finally, can someone explain a fan controller for me. I realize that it controls the fans however, when my computer is under load the fan increases and decreases. With a controller panel will I have to do that manually increase and decrease my fan speed? Is there a program that can do it? Is the controller panel necessary? I want to make sure I have the right parts for my computer to prevent any malfunctions or destruction from my lack of knowledge. For instance some of the controllers say they are 7v controller panels when most of the fans inside any given case are 12v so are these useless or will they provide me with better cooling on an air cooled system?

i cant answer some questions ATM but i can tell you that a fan controller is a good idea, case fans generally are always running at 100%. there is usually no way to change their speed, unless they use 4-pin PWM hooked to the motherboard. so if your system is running nice and chilly and you'd like to turn the fans down to reduce noise a bit, you can do that.
