eBay is your friend, especially for
SLR. Very few people want film cameras now. I picked up a Canon EOS with a 18-80 lens for £70 a couple of years ago and it takes fantastic pictures. I'm sure at college you are not expected to have a DSLR? Think that would be out of reach for a lot of people?
Maybe if you budget £100 for a second hand SLR and then you can have £175 to pick up a decent point and shoot style digital camera - which will be more practical for everyday use than a big DSLR.
