If you are not planning on using the portable for any serious gaming the X3100 should be adequate while you can elect to upgrade from the onboard video there. The option for an addon sound card provided by Dell for that model as well as some others is the X-Fi Xtreme Audio laptop model. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...138&lid=644104

One thing to note about the sound card is that Creative should also have an Xtreme Gamer model for laptops as well as the Audio model. That's a step up from the model Dell shows there.

Are you planning to use the display on the laptop by itself or plug in an external display? For any plans on using a large screen monitor you then have to look at what you will doing most of the time.

For gaming you will want to look at the higher end mobility models by NVidia or ATI for a start. NVidia has the 8800M series seen at http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8m.html

A review on the Diamaond Viper Radeon HD 3850 512mb model for laptops can be looked over at http://www.hothardware.com/Articles/..._Ruby_Edition/
