Default sli and crossfire business

as good a idea as it is, i personally think its silly i mean, whats the point in say buying two 8800's which will cost like £400 when u can spend less and get a 9800gx2 . and with sli and crossfire some games get funny about it and always crash. i think the idea is flawwed really.

Well. 8800GTS G92 doesn't cost 400 pounds now does it? And still an SLI setup with 8800GTS G92 cards will perform roughly the same. I believe even the 9800GTX's are cheaper?

(I might be mistaking, I haven't seen the prices much lately)

for example

2 x 8800gt would come to £320 and thats the cheapest im looking at not the average

1 x 9800gx2 comes to £320 exactly the same

now 9800gx2 is much more powerful than 2 8800gt, and its a one card setup no fiddling about with 2 cards getting special sli mobos to fit it etcetc , and no driver confusions, no games not liking it, its a useless idea. they thought of it because it just looks good and the consumers have fell for it, the performance increase of buying a second is bad it doenst double it!!!! at all like you think it would so all that £160 and ur not getting as much power from a second card, waste of time!

ps: where did i say a 8800 cost £400 i meant 2 of em

Uhh mate the idea of SLI is so that you can go even further then the current latest model will take you...

It's a simple rule of course that two of a lesser model run in SLI will never achieve better results then a single card of a higher up model.

Oh plus alot of people like the bragging rights included with having a system running SLI, because to alot of low end pc users two video cards is unheard of..

Very rarely does someone recommend buying two lower end cards versus a high end card? SLI/CF is really good for people who want extreme performance and want to SLI/CF two high end cards.

im curious with the GX2, in games is it seen as SLI or as a single card?

I find with SLI, the 9600GTs are worth it only, (price to performance is incredible)
But that doesnt mean i wouldnt SLI something else...

with CF, i find the HD38xx series to be worth it. CF scales much better than SLI, but, with SLI you get better single cards, and some games (like CoD4 that really love SLI). But in CF's case, you get a intel mobo, and 2 cheaper cards with same price.
