Default criterion-based text editor

Hello!

Is there anyone who can suggest me a text editor that could erase from a document some characters and/or hold (or copy) only some characters, based on some criteria?

For example: I have a text file which contains a list of all my hard disk's folders and files. I want copy only the strings between "effects" and "2005" with some conditions/criteria; for example only if in the string (effects-2005 inclusive) is there the word "journal", or the word "pancreas", or the character "x".

Is there anything like this? I'd prefer a freeware one.

Thank you!
