Default Monitor messed up with custom comp

I just built a computer and it was working just fine for several days on my hp vs19 lcd monitor, but then it suddenly started acting up. First of all, it wouldn't turn on unless you held the power button down for a few minutes. Then the volume menu would randomly pop up and the volume on the monitor would slowly decrease. Also, the "+" button on my monitor stopped working. So i got fed up with all this and switched back to using my old computer (which is a dell dimension 4100, if that helps). After two or three days of continuing to have these problems on the old comp, everything on my monitor went back to normal, so I know the monitor is just fine. Just wondering what I need to do to make monitor work with my new comp?

My custom comp had these specs:
-Asus P5n-d Motherboard
-Q6600 w/g0 stepping CPU
-XFX 8800GS video card
-4gb OCZ Reaper RAM
-650W Power Supply
