Download VLC and use it to play all your videos

www.videolan.org

Download the debian package and install it.

I installed vlc, it still doesnt play avi, it plays, but all messed up. What is that second part about debian package, what do you mean. I recall reading somewhere about uninstalling Gstreamer, is this true?

wow am surprise, if you can't follow this guide then if you go to ubuntu forums you wont be able to understand anything. seems you're rushing.

Go to your package manager do a search for :
  • gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
  • gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse
  • gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
  • gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse
  • gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg

install them one by one, after that reboot your pc
edit : i forgot to add you need to search for "libdvdcss" in Synaptic, install those too

Thank you very much. Ya, this is embarrassing, I really am retarded when it comes to Ubuntu. I think I need to find a friend to demonstrate the general idea, then i can work from there.

just type dvd, everything related to dvd will pop up, or type "win32" and see what that brings up.
