im not sure if my comp has storage for 2 hard drives internally...guess i could check on that...lol. if i put it internally i wouldnt need a case would i?

yea, i know ill need to format it. which i can do.

when you say most mobos only give IDE's for opticals, i could still get a case, put it externally, and hook it up through firewire or usb right?

You won't need a case

Easier to put it via IDE or SATA you can buy PCI cards that give you extra SATA or IDE ports.

Are there IDE ports that only work for optical drives? That's something I've never heard of...

No - IDE ports can be used for hard drives and CD + DVD Drives.

Right... just though it was weird when people say that newer MoBos come with 1 IDE port *for optical drives*... well now I'm clear on that.

Yes newer mobos only have 1 IDE port and in mine i use it for the DVD burner.
