Default Computer is Slow, Need Help

I did a clean reinstall of Windows XP two weeks ago and my computer is now noticeably slower than it was before the reinstall. There is 15 GB less stuff on my computer now, and I have not downloaded any suspicious programs, but since the day I did the reinstall, it has been slower to open programs and switch between applications. I posted this in another thread and was told to start a new thread and post my hijackthis log, so here it is:

Did you install all of your chipset/motherboard drivers?

This should be in security section!! No wonder its slow! Look at all your startup items and that pc is junked up a little. My log is half that size or less!

Some advice please? I've gone to the startup folder, and there is nothing in it. How do I stop startup items?

What else is in my log that shouldn't be, and how did it get there when I just did a reinstall?

go to command prompt and type "msconfig" and hit enter. When it pops up to the startup tab and uncheck everthing you dont want to start!

Dell usually gives you alotta crapware with the OS. Uninstall those and get more speed.

OK, I did that and I unchecked the following:

Photoshop Elements 6.0
HP Software Update
iTunes Helper
Microsoft LifeCam
Windows Live Messenger
HP Digital Imaging
MS Office
Adobe Reader

The others I was not sure what they were or if I should remove them. Can someone look at the rest of the startup items and let me know if any should be removed. Also, after removing the above items I restarted my computer and got the following message:

"You have used the System Configuration Utility to change the way Windows starts. The Sys Config Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode, causing this message to display and the utility to run every time Windows starts. Choose the Normal Startup mode on the General tab to start Windows normally and undo the changes you made to the Sys Config Utility."

Is this a problem? Do I need to undo what I unchecked in the startup area?
