Default Wireless Help!

Here's my situation, I have a laptop and wireless desktop both connected to the same wireless connection. Both are wireless g systems. The laptop downloads if I am lucky at 90kb/s and my desktop is a blazing 12kb/s. I HAVE DSL! This is so frustrating. I have checked both my computers for viruses and spyware. None found. I have check my DSL connection with the phone company. The problem isn't with them. Does anybody have any suggestions to get my desktop internet speed to a reasonable speed? Thank you for helping.

Also, I even tried connecting directly to the DSL modem with a ethernet cable. Same results. Something is wrong with my computer and I can't seem to find it. It is a new computer that I bought 6 months ago. (Not fully outdated yet)

I'd try another computer, or perhaps get online using some Linux Live CD or something. That way you could eliminate the possibility of it being a software problem. The different speeds among your machines make me think you may have some sort of software hindering the speed, at least on the desktop. Perhaps an over-protective firewall or spyware?

Thank you for the response. I am almost 100% sure it is not a spyware issue. How much can a firewall really slow down a basic connection? I agree I think it is a software problem, but exactly where? My laptop is 50X faster than my desktop, so it would have to be really screwing with my computer. I will try the firewall. Any other suggestions? I was thinking that maybe it is a driver issue, but I cannot find a driver for Realtek RTL8201CL.
