Default Trouble with internt speed

I have six computers sharing internet connections... using an SMC2084 router and a D-Link 8 port switch... and I called AT&T to help with the speed which we increased from 17.01 kbps to 275.30 kbps but yet the speed of the internet still seems a bit too slow.

Could the router be the issue or is it the DSL service from AT&T?

Any help would be helpful.

please specify slow ?
you will note that when one pc is already downloading, and another starts a new download, their will be a decrease in speed. The router will split 275 into 2 bits..
you won't be able to download @ 275k for all of them.
if am getting you right

A valid point PartrickV-

Thanks for your question. Then is it possible that the speed should be higher than 275?

I am thinking it's the router... because I changed it to one of my old routers, it's a "B" instead of a "G" and now I'm getting speeds at 658.40 kbps and now it's flying fast!

Although, I have put in a called for AT&T to come out and check the line... but I think the router maybe the issue... because with the old SMC "G" router it wasn't getting speeds anything close to the 600.00 range.

What are your thoughts on this?
