Default Loud DVD burner at startup

Hey all. Just something that's started happening lately. I've noticed that when my PC boots up into Windows, my DVD drive spins up loud for about a minute before it settles down. It didn't used to do this, but suddenly started about a week ago. There has always been a DVD in the drive (Oblivion), but it didn't always do this.

Any reason it might start acting this way? Is it just the type of drive I have perhaps?

Have you tried it with other disks? I'm wondering if the disk may be slightly warped or something.

I'm going to try it tonight. I haven't even tried it without a disc yet, just to be sure it isn't the drive itself.

Well, it doesn't happen until after Windows has started to load up (welcome screen and all that), so wouldn't that be too late to boot from it?

We bought a compaq online, and it had a similiar problem. my dad thought the drive was going to break soon, so we just returned it. The replacement we got does the same thing, just not as loud.

well it obviously isn't a problem... so i don't think you should worry about it... it's just the way the OS is....
