Cooling a modem/router

i wasn't to sure which category to post this one under to the fact that it's about internet And cooling so i just thought i'd put it here.

well i need help/advice to help keep my router cool. once in a while it will get pretty hot and then my internet connection turns suck-ish so i was wondering... if anyone could help me think of a solution to keep it cool with out me having to point a small fan at it every once in a while.

I actually had an issue with a network adapter. It would heat up and kick my connection. (It's a USB wireless, not PCI) I'd have to unplug it and allow it to cool and then it would work again. All I did was open it up and place the covers on again. It's like the plastic was up against the card itself and caused it to overheat. It still gets hot as hell, but at least it doesn't kick my connection.

Try that with your router.

yea i was thinking something similar to that but... i went to measure my router and it's about 10" long and i was thinking about buying these :
Fans

Filter

then set those on little rubber feet (i can take them off my X-540 speaker bottoms cause their no use since their screwed on the ceiling now) then I'd glue them to the base of the fan (the direction the air blows to* then set them on top of my router where there is air slits to let the air through then get 2 air filters and put them on top of the fans to filter out any air that blows into the router but my problem i have right now is a way to power the fans cause their gonna be about a good 2-3 feet away from my computer tower. so is there a way to strip the wires on the fans and some how convert it to an outlet socket? or even a double A battery?

You could open the router and tap the power line to run the fan. Now I really recommending that one I posted because it has a power knob to adjust the fan speed, would should give you full control of the power you use. I would buy from someone else because I have one and I got mine for $14..maybe ebay or something.

I'd never think about tapping into the power line

but whats the chances of it shorting because i tapped into the power line?

As long as you tap it properly, i dont see it shorting out. No exposed wires. Im not sure if there would be a power issue with the router not getting enough power...but I really wouldnt expect it to be a problem.

Since this thread though i realized mine gets pretty hot and I think i might do the same thing.
