Default Directx error call of duty 4

i have windows xp and whenever i run cod4 it loads my profile then while loading the game it freezes and prompts directx error i have a dell inspirion 1520 laptop
c2d 2.0 ghz
1gb 667mhz ram
256 mb onboard graphic card
pls help me i m using directx9 c the one we get woth call of duty itself i have installed that directx

Try re-installing Direct X.

put the cod4 cd in and go to extras and from there you can reinstall directx.

I have that same Problem on my other computer with XP.


I downloaded mine through Steam though.

Could also be your video card drivers. Maybe updating them or re-installing them.

i also have another prob i cant find graphic card drivers for my card can u tell me how to find out which graphic card i have so i can download apropriate drivers

^^ i sense a poor gpu coming here

i got direct x errors for bf2 when i had a geforce mx4 XD

the card wasn't good enough to support the game this might be the problem here

you can right click on your desktop->properties-> tab on the right-> it will say something like "Monitor on default graphics adapter...." thats your card

I know the problem. Re-installing your DX9 is not an option. CoD4 does not support with integrated graphics. I've tried it but with no luck. I then bought myself a 9600 GT and it works like a charm.
