I can see the computers without any problems, however, when it comes to printers, VISTA isn't seeing the printers being available. The Operating systems are a bit funky... they are shared on the PC's... meaning they can see each other fine, but when it comes to sharing out the printers, they don't see each other!
I tried to set things up in Windows to share, even set an additional port to enable print spooling and... "!@#$%WACK!" it blocks the workstation at which the printer is attached too and the prevents the new laptop with Vista on it to work neither. What's strange is... that these printers are Parallel printers, and for some reason or another through the network things aren't working correctly as they should be. Is Windows XP corrupted in a way where it can not read the printers?! Or perhaps I should just get her a new printer?!

Is it hosted by a specific computer on the network? I know to set up my brothers laptop the simplest way was to type \\BEDROOM (bedroom being the name of the computer the printer is on).

control panel / performance and maint / system.
Each computer has to have a name. (jerry , Jane , Laptop) All computers have to be part of the same workgroup. like myhome, the dafault is mshome. Everything above has to be done on all computers. The printer your sharing has to be shared. control panel , printer and right click share. next on the computer that is sharing printer. The firewall. you have to go into the software and share printer. if it does not work take the firewall down, allow all or turn it off. this is usually where the problem is. i think i covered it all. good luck. once its working its done. Wireless works fine. it won't be an issue. Last edited by tremmor; 05-01-2008 at 08:11 PM. Reason: instructions for Xp only |
