Question desktop not refreshing

hi,
for the last 2 weeks my desktop has been acting weird. if i have a firefox window open (or any other window) and then close it, its image is still showing on my desktop.
pressing f5 (refresh) does not get rid of the ghost image.

i've run the latest norton, ad-aware, super-anti-spyware and spybot but no luck in fixing things.

is it possible my video card ram or regular ram might be faulty?
each time i restart winXP things are fine for a few days at most.

my system...
winXP pro SP 2
2.5 gigs ram
nvidia geforce 6800 gt
dual monitors vis DVI
