Default AVG Ativirus + Windows Genuine Advantage

Hi, I recently tried to install a prog that required Genuine validation. AVG Antivirus immediately stepped in and asked if I should "Allow for all" etc.. So I allowed and then the Genuine Advantage said there was an error. So I disabled AVG and tried again, but still it isn't working.. Any ideas? (By the way I own windows, so don't waste your time with accusations - I didn't fail the Genuine test, all it was was an error). Thanks in advance!
