Default Switching ISP

I currently have Verizon DSL 3.0 Mbps. I pay $40 a month for it. I want to switch to something cheaper at close to the same speed. Anybody know any good DSL companies?

Typically, the company that you get your dsl from is the one that owns the lines in your area so they usually have a local monopoly. In otherwords, you will probably only be able to get verizon dsl if you want to use dsl. You could do satellite, but then you'll have high latency. You could also do mobile broadband but it's slower, more expensive, and they cap your bandwidth. So really, if you want to pay less just drop your speed down to 768k otherwise you're stuck with what you have.

ISP's vary greatly, many places don't offer service in certain areas. Your best bet is to go to their website, enter in your phone number, and they will tell you if they have service in your area.

That seems over-priced! My mom pays that same price for a 5 Mbps cable line! It's charter cable. I would much rather have a DSL line as they tend to keep a stable upload and download speeds but, I believe DSL is more common to give out logs than charter cable.

Can you post a test from speedtest.net or speakeasy for us?

The upload speed you have now is great for only a 3mbps line! I get about 600kb with my 5mbps line. DSL is known for better upload speeds than say cable. Do you upload alot? If so then I would just upgrade to a faster DSL line or skip the cable and get a T1 line if you have the budget to do so. I think you can get a T1 line for maybe $75 or so.
