Default tiny laptop for school?

I was looking around and found this.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...IN#detailspecs

it has linux which i havent used before. it also has openoffice. i dont have any programs right now like MS Office or anything. So I was thinking of learning openoffice because its free. Its only $300 and I would only use it to bring to class for notes or whatever. I wouldnt really do much more than that. Maybe a paper or 2. I have a desktop that I will use mostly but was just looking for something small and portable.

What do you guys think about this notebook??Linux??

thanks

These are cool little computers. Definately awesome for what you'd need it for. I'd personally go for the 4gb version of it though. The Linux thats on there isn't bad, but me being a windows person I'd install XP on it if it were me. Linux confuses the hell out of me They actually run quite nice with XP, very snappy. All in all I'd recommend it.

These are good, they have great reviews, and a lot of them recommend them. You won't be able to game or watch videos, (dvd/blu-ray) but they are extremely lightweight and small.

is it possible to upgrade the processor for a dual core LGA775 or add more memory on these?

You can add memory to these, or at least so I've heard. As far as open office goes it is about the same as Microsoft word and it works mostly the same as it, the primary difference being the fact that GUI looks slightly different.

Actually search on youtube and watch some vids. I actually watched a vid were someone was playing gta: san andreas on it and it loaded fairly fast. You can run vista on it too if you desired but you would most likely want more ram.

You need a 4G or better if you want to upgrade your memory... 2Gs, AFAIK, have soldered memory and no additional slots. I think I might get a 4G myself, they seem like a nice comp... I don't think their processors can be upgraded, and even if they could I think c2ds produce too much heat for such a small, light laptop.
